Secrets to Fulfilment Life
There are moments in life in which one is left wondering if the life one is living is truly fulfilling.
During these times it feels as if life is sometimes not at all as purposeful as we had envisioned it to be.
Perhaps you simply feel stuck in life. Or you’re simply frustrated of living a life that is not always fulfilling.
It’s not that you do not appreciate the life you’re living. It’s something different. You simply feel that there must be more to life. That there must be something out there that gives your life a true purpose. Something that truly fulfills you. During these insightful moments, we begin to notice that we’ve been stuck with mediocre activities for far too long. We start to realize that we’ve wasted countless hours with entertaining but mindless hobbies. In retrospect, none of these activities contributed to the sense of living a fulfilled life. Living life on autopilot can be quite entertaining for a while, but it certainly does not fulfill. But what can you do to live a more fulfilling life? Is there even a secret formula to a happy and fulfilled life? Here are some secrets to living a fulfilled life.
1. Appreciate challenges – they give perspective
2. Money, power and lust does not correlate to greater fulfillment
3. Pursuing your vision will truly fulfill you
4. Mindfulness, awareness and self-reflection
5. Find fulfillment by taking risks
Now take a step back and breathe. Now, ask yourself these questions before we tackle how achievement and fulfillment work.
Do you enjoy what you do?
Are you a success at what you do?
Do you feel happy or fulfilled with what you are doing?
Do you smile a lot and have great things happening in your life?
If you said yes to all these questions, then you’re doing pretty well in life. You have likely found the place where you are supposed to be and have found fulfillment.
On the other hand, what do you think about these questions?
Is there something you would enjoy doing more?
Are you missing out on exciting things in your life because of work?
Do you constantly just try to “make it through the day?”
Do you wish that you could move to a new career?
Do you feel fulfilled at work or have you just achieved success?
If you answered yes to these questions, then maybe it’s time for a change. Think about it for a minute. Are you focusing more on achievement and fulfillment or just achievement alone?
Difference Between Achievement and Fulfillment
Mirriam-Webster defines “Achievement” as “something that has been done or achieved through effort: a result of hard work.” When people think of achievement, they think of those who have gained success in some area or another. A great example of this is someone who has become a millionaire. They have the financial capability to buy anything they want such as cars, homes, boats or any other number of things.
Another type of achievement is someone who has graduated from a university with a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, or even a doctorate degree. However, in most cases, people tend to judge success (or achievement) financially.
In these examples, these people have possibly gained both achievement and fulfillment. They are not mutually exclusive terms. However, if you are only seeking achievement then you are likely unhappy with how your life is going.
But what exactly is fulfillment? It’s also known as self-fulfillment. Self-fulfillment is defined as “the feeling of being happy and satisfied because you are doing something that fully utilizes your abilities and talents.” In other words, fulfillment has nothing to do with wealth or success but rather with your happiness. It is something that cannot be measured by others because it is very subjective. Only you can decide if you are finding fulfillment in your life.
Do You Have What it Takes?
Now, let’s go back to the questions from the beginning. Do you know if you have truly found fulfillment in your work, or is it merely achievement? If it’s the latter, then that’s okay. Being successful is not a bad thing. On the contrary, it can be a very good thing but it becomes less so if you are not happy. So how can you make achievement and fulfillment work together?
Firstly, discover what it is that gives you that fulfillment. Remember what you liked to do as a child. Discover what skills and talents you have that you want to use everyday. Once you know what makes you fulfilled you’ve found the secret to life, use that as a launch pad for your success.
If your current job isn’t doing it for you, then find a position that does. That doesn’t mean quit your current job right away but brainstorm for a while. Choose something that allows you to do what you love and still let’s you be successful. You may have the best paying job in the world but it won’t do you much good if you are unhappy.
Finding Fulfillment is the Secret to Life
Remember that achievement and fulfillment work hand in hand; the more fulfilled you are, the happier you will be. And the happier you are, the more you will achieve.
Use the things you love to drive your fulfillment and then use that fulfillment to drive your success.
